Soprano Addison Ballew, a native of Upstate South Carolina, recently graduated from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a Master of Music degree. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree, cum laude, from Furman University in 2022. Most recently, Addison performed as the soprano soloist in Haydn's Mass in B-flat ("Theresienmesse") with IU's University Chorale and portrayed Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) in Heidi Grant-Murphy's Opera Workshop. Last fall, she took on the roles of Norina in Don Pasquale and Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro with IU Opera Workshop. In the spring, she premiered the roles of Hélène and Fanchette with Unsung Opera. Addison's other notable performances include Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Little Red Riding Hood in Into the Woods, and chorus roles in Dido and Aeneas and Sasha Janes’ The Nutcracker. A NATS Regional Qualifier in both Musical Theatre and Classical Voice, Addison has received honors in both categories. She was also a finalist in the William E. Schmidt Youth Competition and a Top Ten Finalist in the Musical Theatre Pre-Professional Division of the Classical Singer Competition in 2020.
Addison was selected to study in the 2024 opera studio at the prestigious American Institute for Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, Austria. She conducted voice science research at Furman University under the mentorship of Lisa Barksdale, CCC-SLP. Addison also served as a Music History teaching assistant under Dr. Gary Malvern at Furman and, in her final year at Jacobs, was Secretary of the Student National Association of Teachers of Singing.
